Islam has embedded its beliefs and daily practices in
Indonesia for centuries, creating a culture and a way of
life that is diversified with local wisdom; these ways of life
are also deeply rooted in the city of Bengkulu. The Tabot
ceremony in Bengkulu is a mourning commemoration for
the death of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson. Although it
is a part of acculturation with India, the Bengkulu people
proudly carry it as one of their own beloved ceremonies.
The festival is not only a remembrance to commemorate
the noble figure, but also to discover and appreciate
Islamic values and its application in today’s society. Take
a glimpse through the history of Islam in Indonesia by
coming down to Tabot Festival.
